For
all your food provisions, they are several
possibilities around St Etienne de l’Olm. The
nearest supermarket is in the shopping centre at
the entrance to Alès. It is a Cora supermarket and
offers everything from barbecue charcoal to Foie
Gras. There is also a little supermarket in Vézénobres and several supermarkets around
Uzès.
The
town centre of Uzès also offers plenty of
opportunity to find more local products. Of
particular note is the weekly market in Uzès,
which is without doubt one of the best in Provence.
This takes place every Saturday morning in the
historical town centre in Place des Herbes and is
always extremely lively, with the atmosphere
enhanced by street entertainers. If you want the best choice
it is better to be there early. Everything is on
offer, with a huge choice of truly fantastic
regional fare ranging from cheeses, olives,
tapenade and patés to wines and honey, fruit, meat, fish and
vegetables. There are also plenty of gift stalls
offering provencal pottery, soaps and candles to
name but a few items.
There
is a daily bread van during the summer that comes
to St Etienne de l’Olm. It usually arrives at
10.45 in the morning and can be heard tooting its
horn !
The
town of Nîmes has a very nice pedestrian centre
offering a lot of shopping possibilities.
